The
mission of the Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment
is to nurture positive interactions between communities, the environment
and the economy.
The
Foundation emphasizes the following goals:
- Fostering
community and environmental stewardship.
- Improving
communications between businesses and their neighbors.
- Recognizing
individual responsibility for the environmental consequences of
personal actions.
- Forging
positive links between environmental stewardship and sustainable
job creation.
- Harnessing
economic power to leverage environmental sustainability.
- Instilling
respect for the inalienable rights protected by our nation’s constitution
and the essential human rights to clean air, clean water and individual
dignity.
Rose
is a small foundation specializing in administering donor-restricted
funds. Most of our grantmaking is limited to areas within the
state of California. We accept funding applications from community-based
organizations active in one or more of the following areas:
- Protecting
San Francisco Bay and its ecosystem.
- Protecting
Southern California coastal watersheds.
- Community-based
pollution prevention and environmental stewardship initiatives.
- Protecting
consumer privacy rights.
- Other
programs of special interest to Foundation donors.

Funding Guidelines are for environmental grant requests. Please

If
you are interested in applying for a grant from the Northern California
Environmental Grassroots Fund, see the Grassroots Fund's Funding
Guidelines. No letter of inquiry is required.
Environmental grant applicants must first submit a letter of inquiry (LOI - step 1, below). This allows the Foundation to attempt to match the project with the appropriate fund. LOIs for the summer grant round are due April 30. LOIs for the winter round are due October 31. Full proposals for the summer round are due May 31; full proposals for the winter round are due on November 30

Application
Process
1)
Submit a letter of inquiry of no more than two pages concisely
describing the proposed project, its goals, time frame,
funding need, and a brief description of the organization
requesting funds. The Foundation accepts inquiries throughout
the year. (Due April 30 and October 31)
2)
After review of your letter of inquiry, you may be invited
to submit a full proposal. Upon invitation to submit a
full proposal, please explain your project in detail.
Include the following:

Narrative
project description.

Detailed
project budget and most recent annual financial statement.

Timetable
of activities (as appropriate).
-
Description
of lead project staff.
-
Evaluation
procedure.
-
IRS
501(c)(3) determination letter or acceptable documentation
of fiscal sponsorship.
Incomplete
proposals will not be considered. Foundation staff may require
additional information on a case by case basis.
Full
proposals must be postmarked by May 31st and November 30th
of each year. Most grant awards range from $5,000 - $20,000.
